One of the book clubs that met in the store this month read “Educated” by Tara Westover. It is an account of the struggle for self-invention, a tale of fierce family loyalty and of the grief that comes with severing the closest of ties. Raised in a Mormon-survivalist home, Tara self-educates until the age of 17 when she is admitted to Brigham-Young University. This is her first novel.
“Tara’s process of self-discovery is beautifully captured. It’s the kind of book that I think everyone will enjoy, no matter what genre you usually pick up. She’s a talented writer, and I suspect this book isn’t the last we’ll hear from her. I can’t wait to see what she does next.” – Bill Gates
